What chemicals and methods should be used to remove a processor heat sink in a laptop?
I replaced the map my sister's mother-IBM ThinkPad T42. The manufacturer uses a combination of heat transfer and adhesive compound between the heatsink and processor and video chipset. How can I lose this stuff to prevent damage when unscrewing the heatsink to the chassis? There is a Fry's Electronics, which sells all kinds chemicals, but I'm not sure what I can use that will not affect the ICS.
Heat the compound with a hairdryer, then a layer of razor blades with alcohol or lacquer thinner, cut the nails and dirt that was removed / unscrewed the heat sink.
